When are you at your best?
Do you know what conditions you require to produce your best work?
Along with a series of other introspective questions, these prompts help us develop a greater understanding of ourselves, and lead to greater fulfilment in our personal and professional lives.
In 2020, we introduced an activity within our Evolving Leadership Program, which provides each participant with a PowerPoint deck, consisting of a series of simple questions in template form. They are then requested to complete their responses for each of the stimulus slides/questions.
Once complete, this ‘Personal User Guide’, provides insights into each person, including their preferred ways of working, hobbies and interests, how they prefer to receive feedback, and more.
The beauty of this exercise, and the resultant guide, is that it can be shared with managers and leaders, assisting them in learning more about their team members and how to lead or manage them best.
Here are some of the prompts we incorporate into our version of the ‘Personal User Guide’.
- The conditions I like to work in
- The hours I have the most energy
- Best ways to communicate with me
- How I best receive feedback
- Things I need near/with me
- How I learn best
- Things I struggle with
- Things I love
- How I de-compress or unwind
